Rookie Minors is for children who are league age 8.
In Rookie Minors, children receive additional instruction on the fundamentals of baseball – hitting, throwing, catching, running, and fielding – emphasizing playing positions in the field and good sportsmanship during game play. Players begin pitching in Rookie Minors, with the coach coming to pitch after 3 balls, and there are no walks – only hits or outs. Rookie Minor games consist of 4 innings (maximum 1.5 hours long) with 9 defensive players in the field every inning.
During a game, each team will have 3 outs or a maximum of 3 runs per at-bat per inning. Rookie Minors is suitable for both aspiring baseball and softball players. If appropriate, 8-year-old Junior Rookie players who demonstrate the required level of skill and maturity may be assessed for Minors baseball or U9 softball

All players need to have their own plain grey baseball pants (no stripes or ribbing, please).
Each player will receive a hat, long-sleeved practice shirt, and socks — theirs to keep.
Team jerseys will be distributed and must be returned at the end of the season. If you do not return your jersey at the end of season, you will be responsible for a $50 payment.

Equipment
Players need their own glove, batting helmet, and rubber cleats. *parents are strongly encouraged to have their own helmet.
They must also wear pelvic protection (a “jock” or “jill”) to every practice and game.
Team bats are supplied. Players may purchase and use their own bat as long as it has the USA Baseball logo indicating it’s approved Little League. Bats without this logo will not be permitted!

Parent Involvement
Please plan to help out with your child’s team as a coach, manager and/or volunteer. A clinic for coaches, managers, and on-field volunteers will be offered before and during the beginning of the season. All parents are expected to volunteer unless they have selected the opt-out fee at registration.
“Playing up” to Majors
All players must register according to their birthday. If you feel your player would be better suited playing in a higher level, please send me an email to registrar@beaconhillball.com including your player’s name, age, and your request.
Decisions around playing up are multifactorial, including skill, safety, emotional maturity, roster space, etc. The decisions will be made by our coaches.
